Dental Crowns

Atlantic Family Dentistry specializes in both crowns and bridges, able to treat a wide range of dental problems with these procedures. Both crowns and bridges are considered fixed prosthetic dental devices. Unlike dentures, which are removable, you cannot take crowns and bridges out because they are cemented to your existing teeth or implants with special material.

What is a Crown?

A crown is a protective covering that is placed over your original tooth that blends in perfectly with the rest of your teeth. Your dentist might suggest using a crown for a number of scenarios, including a root canal, protect a weak or fractured tooth, attach a bridge, replace a large filling when there isn’t enough tooth remaining, or even cover a discolored or poorly shaped tooth.

What’s a Bridge?

A bridge might be a recommended procedure if you’re missing one or multiple teeth. Missing teeth can cause a number of problems for your mouth, including letting your remaining teeth shift, resulting in a misaligned bite. The imbalance that missing teeth can cause to your mouth can even result in gum disease, bone deterioration, and TMJ. Your remaining nearby teeth serve as abutments or anchors for the bridge. Then a replacement tooth is attached to the crowns that cover the abutments, designed to fit the color of your normal teeth, restoring your smile.

Crowns and bridges can last a lifetime. At Atlantic Family Dentistry we’ll give you expert care you need in order to ensure the best possible procedure. We’ll all give you the knowledge and education to care for your dental crown or dental bridge properly, bringing your smile back to normal.
